Originally written to Spellman's father in the United States, these letters tell of his experiences traveling to London, North Africa, and the Middle East during World War II. In vibrant detail, they catalogue the people he met, the devastation he witnessed, and the indefatigable spirit of the many American soldiers he encountered at the front. While Spellman has become a somewhat controversial figure in the history of the American Church, he nevertheless should be recognized for the tireless service he provided to the troops during World War II, particularly at Christmas.
