Dickens, Charles. Keller, Arthur I. A Christmas Carol. Philadelphia: David McKay, 1914.
Octavo. Hardcover. 1st Edition.
Beautiful early 20th-century edition of Dickens' A Christmas Carol, beautifully illustrated by award-winning American painter and illustrator Arthur I. Keller. Dickens' A Christmas Carol was an immediate holiday classic. This American version brings the story to life with rich color illustrations by Arthur I. Keller depicting the story with all its British Victorian Era trappings. Several different versions of this work exist, all published in 1914: one in dark blue cloth-gilt with a white pictorial wrapper with filigree border; one in dark green cloth-gilt (its original wrapper not present); and this one in light blue cloth-gilt with a gold pictorial wrapper. The priority, if any, is not known. It is somewhat likely, based on other titles of the era, that this version was intended for gifting. Pencil owner signature. Book with only very mild discoloration to cloth, fragile gold dust jacket with light wear mainly to extremities. A near-fine copy of an instant Christmas collectible, perfect for yearly reading.
